Who We Are
Achieve Learning is a specialist 11+ preparation provider with experience supporting children and families since 2004.
Founded in Harrow in 2004, Achieve Learning spent more than two decades delivering tuition, assessments, revision programmes and mock examinations for children preparing for grammar, independent and other selective schools.
Today, that first-hand experience informs our specialist 11+ practice papers, individual parent guidance, planned in-person mock examinations and selected preparation support.
Our priority is not to offer every possible educational service. It is to provide informed, relevant and practical support for families navigating competitive selective-school entrance examinations.
Our Experience Since 2004
Over more than 20 years, Achieve Learning has worked with children from a wide range of state, grammar and independent schools.
Our selective-school experience includes preparation for:
- Queen Elizabeth’s School, Barnet;
- The Henrietta Barnett School;
- South West Herts Consortium schools;
- St Michael’s Catholic Grammar School;
- Haberdashers’ Boys’ School;
- Merchant Taylors’ School;
- Dr Challoner’s Grammar School;
- other competitive grammar and independent-school routes.
Former pupils have gained admission to many of these schools. However, our experience has also taught us that successful preparation cannot be reduced to one course, one tutor, one set of papers or a guaranteed formula.
Children begin from different academic positions, develop at different rates and may be preparing for examinations with substantially different requirements.
A More Focused Direction
The 11+ preparation market has changed considerably since Achieve Learning was founded.
Families now have access to an enormous range of tutors, online platforms, practice papers, mock examinations and preparation programmes. More choice can be helpful, but it can also make it difficult to judge what is relevant, appropriately challenging and genuinely suited to a particular school.
Achieve Learning’s current focus brings together four areas:
- specialist school-specific practice papers;
- individual 11+ strategy and guidance;
- realistic in-person mock examinations;
- selected tuition, masterclass and focused revision opportunities.
This allows us to apply the experience developed through years of direct teaching and assessment while giving families greater flexibility in how they prepare.
Our Approach to 11+ Preparation
We do not believe that every child should follow the same preparation programme.
Effective preparation should reflect:
- the child’s current academic level;
- individual strengths and weaknesses;
- likely target schools;
- the subjects and formats actually being tested;
- the time remaining before the examinations;
- the child’s confidence, maturity and motivation;
- the support already being provided at home or through tuition.
For some children, Year 4 preparation should be used primarily to strengthen reading, vocabulary, comprehension and core Maths. During Year 5, preparation can become more structured, timed and school-specific.
Other children may start later but already possess strong foundations. In those circumstances, a carefully prioritised plan may be more useful than attempting to work through every available resource.
Our approach is therefore based on relevance, progression and honest assessment—not simply increasing the volume of work.
Individual 11+ Guidance With Firoz Jetha
Achieve Learning’s individual 11+ guidance sessions are provided personally by founder Firoz Jetha.
Firoz has 30 years’ experience working with children and families across education, academic support and guidance. He began working with pupils and families before establishing Achieve Learning in 2004 and has since continued to support preparation for competitive grammar and selective-school entrance examinations.
Guidance sessions can help parents consider:
- realistic potential target schools;
- the examinations and admissions requirements involved;
- their child’s current position;
- whether existing preparation is appropriately focused;
- which areas should be prioritised;
- whether tuition or additional support would add value;
- the appropriate use of practice papers and mock examinations;
- clear next steps for preparation.
The purpose is to provide an independent and informed strategic view. It is not to pressure families into committing to a long-term programme.

Specialist 11+ Practice Papers
Not every paper described as “11+” is suitable for every entrance examination.
Schools can differ in the subjects tested, question formats, timings, stages and expected level of challenge. Using irrelevant or poorly matched materials can waste preparation time, create false confidence or discourage a child unnecessarily.
Our growing range of specialist practice papers is designed to provide focused preparation for particular competitive entrance examinations.
The papers are intended to help children:
- apply their knowledge to appropriately selected questions;
- become familiar with relevant styles and formats;
- identify gaps requiring further work;
- develop accuracy and time management;
- prepare more confidently for examination conditions.
The development and review of Achieve Learning’s specialist papers is informed by our experience of selective-school preparation since 2004. Papers are developed under experienced educational oversight, with consideration given to current examination information, question design, pupil performance and feedback from children who have prepared for the relevant entrance examinations.
No independent practice-paper provider can know or reproduce an unseen future examination exactly. Our aim is to create relevant and purposeful preparation materials based on the best information and experience available.

11+ Mock Examinations
Mock examinations can help children experience formal instructions, unfamiliar surroundings, strict timings and sustained examination conditions.
However, mocks are most useful when they are appropriately timed, and their results influence subsequent preparation. Completing too many mocks without addressing the issues they reveal can lead to fatigue, declining motivation and unnecessary pressure.
Achieve Learning is planning a limited programme of realistic in-person mock examinations for competitive 11+ routes, with priority areas expected to include QE Boys and the South West Herts Consortium.

Selected Tuition and Revision Support
Some children benefit from additional teaching, structured preparation or focused support with particular areas. Others can prepare effectively at home with appropriate resources and guidance.
Achieve Learning is developing selected tuition, masterclass and revision options rather than returning to a broad, full-time tuition-centre model.

Honest Experienced Guidance
Selective-school entrance examinations are highly competitive. No tutor, paper provider or adviser can responsibly guarantee admission.
A child’s eventual outcome can be affected by academic performance, examination-day execution, the level of competition, admissions rules and the number of available places.
We aim to give families honest guidance, relevant preparation materials and a clearer understanding of the decisions ahead. This includes being prepared to say when:
- a proposed school may not be a realistic fit;
- particular tuition or materials are unnecessary;
- preparation is covering irrelevant subjects;
- excessive testing may be becoming counterproductive;
- more evidence is needed before reaching a conclusion.
